One million Covid deaths
For the first time on May 20, 2022, the Star Tribune published a front page full-wrap to commemorate the deadliest milestone in U.S. history: One million American lives lost to Covid. I knew this ambitious concept still needed buy-in from stakeholders in the room and I started to workshop the idea with others. To ensured that one million dots on broadsheet could be readable, I discreetly tested small dot tests in live papers. When the full concept was drafted, we then ran test issues on the press to make sure that one million dots could be as affective as envisioned. This design won a gold medal at SND44, with the judges saying, "We saw one million a lot around Covid deaths and this design takes a unique approach of measuring it against other historical losses."
